Glentoran 2-1 Cliftonville
JJB Sports Premiership - Saturday, 30th August, 2008
COLIN Nixon was the toast of The Oval after his stoppage time winner earned ten-man Glentoran the points against fellow title hopefuls Cliftonville.

Francis Murphy headed Cliftonville into the lead in the fifth minute when he got a head to a perfectly weighted Rory Hamill corner.

And Murphy almost made it 2-0 on 14 minutes when he pounced onto a shockingly poor Paul Leeman clearance only to fire straight at 'keeper Elliott Morris while, on 25 minutes, Chris Scannell fired against the bar only for the ball to go out for a corner.

But the Glens levelled through Gary Hamilton six minutes from half-time with a clinical finish into the roof of the net after Michael Halliday had knocked the ball down from the edge of the area.

The game took a twist with 20 minutes remaining when the Glens were reduced to ten men after Jamie McGovern was dismissed by referee Mark Courtney following an altercation with Reds defender David McAlinden.

Then, in a dramatic finale, Nixon grabbed the winner for the Glens four minutes into stoppage time when he brought the back from the byline to deliver a powerful shot beyond John Connolly into the bottom corner.
