Lisburn Distillery 2-4 Newry City
Carling Premiership - Saturday, 22nd August, 2009
LISBURN Distillery slumped to a fourth successive Carling Premiership with this home reversal at the hands of Newry City.

Stephen Garrett fired the visitors into the lead on 18 minutes when he slammed a penalty down the middle of the goal awarded after he had been brought down by Glenn Ferguson.

Cullen Feeney made it 2-0 four minutes later when he made the most of some poor defending to slide in at the back post to convert a Niall Henderson corner.

Chris Morgan might have added a third with a header against the bar before, on 38 minutes, Garrett showed great composure to get onto a long ball and send it past Paul Murphy to add to the Whites' woes.

The beleaguered hosts almost pulled a goal back seven minutes into the second half when Gavin Melaugh found Rory Hamill only for his chipped effort to come back off the bar.

Hamill was frustrated not long after with a second ball against the woodwork before, on 78 minutes, the Whites finally reduced the deficit after Ferguson converted from the spot after Ross Black had brought down Gavin Whelan.

Any slim hopes of a home revival were dashed seven minutes from time when Morgan knocked home a fourth for Newry from a Kevin Keegan cross.

The Whites did grab a stoppage time consolation through Melaugh but it was scant comfort on another disappointing day for boss Jimmy Brown.
