Newry City 2-1 Institute
JJB Sports Premiership - Tuesday, 17th March, 2009
INSTITUTE'S hopes of making the top six split suffered a mighty blow with this St. Patrick's Day defeat to Newry City at The Showgrounds.

John Gregg's side are two points adrift of Cliftonville in the race for the final place but with a trip to The Oval awaiting on Saturday compared to Cliftonville's game with Bangor it's looking very much like advantage Reds.

It was a vital result for Newry, too, as they put distance between themselves and bottom club Dungannon Swifts.

'Stute moved in front after six minutes when Paul Brown got on the end of a ball from the right to fire past Andy Coleman from ten yards.

The sides then traded chances through Cullen Feeney and Philip Lowry while Ryan Semple came close to making it 2-0 just before the break only to send his effort just wide.

Newry levelled on 57 minutes, though, when Chris Morgan was quickest to get to a Darren Cassidy corner to send the ball past Alan Ryan.

And Stephen Garrett sealed the points seven minutes after that by getting onto a long ball out of defence, beating Paddy McLaughlin for pace and slotting calmly beyond the 'keeper.
