Newry City 2-1 Coleraine
Carling Premiership - Tuesday, 15th September, 2009
SUPERSUB Matthew Hazley earned Newry City a maximum return from this night of high drama at The Showgrounds - but his late strike was overshadowed by events after the game.

City were rocked by the announcement of boss Gerry Flynn that he was resigning from the post with immediate effect after over two-and-a-half years in the hotseat.

During the 90 minutes that had preceeded he witnessed his side coming behind from an early goal to secure a second successive win on the bounce to move within touching distance of second spot.

David Munster had edged the visiting Bannsiders into the lead after just ten minutes when the ball ricocheted off his heels and past 'keeper Andy Coleman from a Gareth Tommons shot.

Newry drew level, though, on 27 minutes courtesy of Andy Graham who marked his full debut for the club with a diving header from six yards after Chris Morgan delivered the ball from the right.

Coleraine were reduced to ten men on 64 minutes when Rory Patterson was dismissed by referee Brian Turkington for dissent but within a few minutes City lost a man themselves after Steven Ferguson saw red following a foul on Michael Hegarty.

And to cap a stunning seven minute period Turkington showed a third red card of the night to Tommons on 71 minutes when he collected a second booking after a challenge on Darren King.

Then, four minutes later, up popped Hazley - only on the pitch a couple of minutes - to deliver the winning blow for Newry with a shot past Laurence McCormick from just inside the area.
