Glentoran 0-1 Cliftonville
JJB Sports Irish Cup - Saturday, 7th March, 2009
CLIFTONVILLE reached their third successive JJB Sports Irish Cup semi-final with this defeat of league leaders Glentoran at The Oval.

A solitary Chris Scannell strike - his 24th of the season - saw the Reds through to a last four tussle with holders Linfield on April 7th. He grabbed the all important winner on 22 minutes after being teed up by Mark Holland who pounced on a botched Paul Leeman clearance.

Scannell might have broken the deadlock early in the game when he test Elliot Morris with a close range effort following a mistake by defender Johnny Taylor while, on 42 minutes, Mark Patterson was inches wide with a header.

Glentoran's best chance of the game came after the break when skipper Paul Leeman tested John Connolly with a header.

The second half generally, however, produced little of note with neither 'keeper having to endure any anxious moments and, in the end, that Scannell finish midway through the first period was enough to see Eddie Patterson's men through.
