Crusaders 0-5 Linfield
JJB Sports Premiership - Saturday, 2nd May, 2009
LINFIELD put in a five star performance at Seaview to defeat cup finalists Crusaders but it wasn't enough to reclaim the Gibson Cup for a fourth successive season.

The Blues knew the destination of the title was out of their hands depending on events at The Oval but they still turned in a professional performance just in case the Glens slipped up.

Paul Munster opened the scoring after 18 minutes with a right foot volley after the ball was floated over from the left and despite Chris Keenan's best efforts there was enough power in the shot to take it over the line.

Number two arrived on 26 minutes when Robert Garrett fired past the 'keeper from eight yards after a Mark McAllister lay off from a Michael Carvill cross while, on 37 minutes, Munster doubled his tally for the day from an Aidan O'Kane left wing delivery.

Garrett then got in on the act a couple of minutes from the break with a well taken right-footed shot from the corner of the box.

The scoring was completed 12 minutes from time - although with the Glens three-up the title was beyond Linfield's reach - when Michael Gault rose highest to nod home a Damien Curran corner from the left.
