THERE'S no doubting the big one this weekend. The first Big Two clash of the season is already upon us and all roads lead to the Oval.

Glentoran, who hammered fierce cross-town rivals Linfield 4-1 in the Setanta Sports Cup recently, would certainly settle for a repeat of Saturday.

Jamie Mulgrew's absence will hit the Blues hard too but forget such a score-line this time.

Also forget the Glens' County Antrim Shield semi-final defeat to Cliftonville in midweek.

The past is irrelevant when the Big Two collide.

A hero will be born on one side of the city and football has a funny way of throwing up the unlikeliest of match-winners - or losers

How many times has a debutant scored in a huge game? How many times has an out-of-form striker rediscovered his goal-scoring boots in a derby? How many times has a normally reliable keeper blundered when the heat was on?

We've all seen it before and why would Saturday be any different. So, step forward Andy Waterworth.

The Glens striker hasn't found the target since his big-money move to the Oval but what better way to introduce himself to the east Belfast faithful than with a goal against the auld enemy.

But Linfield might just have something to say about that. Whether they admit it publicly or not, revenge will be on the menu on Saturday.

Expect fireworks - but more importantly, expect the unexpected.

Elsewhere on derby day, Crusaders entertain Cliftonville at Seaview.

Stephen Baxter's men have been a joy to watch so far this season and were extremely unlucky not to book a place in the County Antrim Shield final after coming from two goals down against Linfield only to lose out on penalties.

Before Wednesday night, the Crues would have been favourites for the North Belfast head-to-head but a morale-boosting semi-final win against the Glens will have done a lot for Eddie Patterson and co.

Expect football of the highest order but the injury-hit Reds will have to improve if there are going to see of the Hatchetmen.

Basement boys Ballymena United can't buy a win at the minute.

The last thing they need is a pressure-filled local derby with Coleraine but Roy Walker will see this as the perfect opportunity to get their season going at last.

Confidence is at an all-time low but a win on Saturday would get start the ball rolling. Defeat however, would really pile the pressure on.

Newly promoted Bangor have been something of a surprise package to date. You never quite know what you're going to get from them and Lisburn Distillery will have to try to second-guess the Seasiders this weekend.

The Whites haven't exactly been flying recently but they should have too much for Marty Quinn's men.

Glenavon always fancy their chances to score goals and that could be the difference between them and shot-shy Newry City.

Institute have enjoyed relative success in patches so far this season and they will fancy their chances against a stuttering Dungannon Swifts outfit.

Whoever you support and whatever game you're at this weekend, enjoy.
